Our story
The Book Pharmacy was born out of the desire to match books to readers, thereby streamlining the book purchasing process for our customers and in turn making a positive contribution to the nation's health by encouraging the enjoyment of literature across the society. We appreciate and respect that it's hard to find time to read in our fast-paced lives. Nonetheless, we see reading as indispensable. Of course we won't read the books for you, that wouldn't benefit anyone! But we can make sure that your limited and precious leisure time is not spent looking for books but, instead, actually reading them. |
Our mission is:
To improve the lives of our customers through the meticulous recommendation and dissemination of books, as well as to promote reading and literature. Our philosophy is:
1. We are driven by passion, not only for reading but also for elegant design, for outstanding customer service and for social generosity. This motivation and enthusiasm should be communicated to our customers in everything we do. 2. We will always have the interest and will always find the time to discover our every customer's exact needs. We will thus be able to satisfy each customer by fulfilling and exceeding their expectations. 3. We are always creative, always flexible and always willing to learn and we will always stay that way. |
Paul Armstrong Leworthy was born in Salisbury, UK, and read modern languages at the University of Nottingham, before studying European literature at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. While he has written academically on literary subjects ranging from ancient Greek comedy to contemporary pop culture, his study interests have long devolved upon the relationship between text and traumata. Specifically, he is fascinated by the therapeutic ramifications of the production and consumption of literature.
By way of this study interest and inspired by the sense of well-being he was able to gift friends through appropriate and well-timed book recommendations, Paul became increasingly interested in bibliotherapy. In midsummer 2013 a few seemingly outlandish ideas crystallised into what is now The Book Pharmacy. Although world cinema and the cultivation of his record collection at times seem contenders, travel and literature remain his principle interests. He currently lives in Berlin. |
